A  COMPILATION BY STELLA LOFTUS, SECRETARY TO JOSEPH JOHNSTON, HERBERT EUSTACE’S FRIEND.

The background for “Metaphysical Statements” is as follows:

Joe Johnston:  Practitioner/writer of some articles in the Christian Science Monitors, Christian Science Journals, and Christian Science Sentinels in the 1910’s and 20’s.  Joe was also a good friend of Herbert Eustace.

Stella Loftus:  woman with a claim of cancer.

Stella Loftus was hospitalized, unconscious, and was told she had one week to live.  It was hospital policy for there to be an entirely different doctor each day attending the various patients.  Joe Johnston (who, it is told, was very outspoken in Science) went to the hospital to visit Stella Loftus every day.  Each day he would ask probing questions of a different doctor.  “Why is she unconscious?”  “Are you a law to the case?”  He broke down the resistance of each doctor and soon Mrs. Loftus regained consciousness and left the hospital completely free of the false claim of cancer.

Stella Loftus then became Joe’s secretary.  In her job as secretary, she had access to Mr. Eustace’s letters since Joe Johnston and Herbert Eustace communicated regularly.  As a Christmas gift, Mrs. Loftus presented Joe with a present of quotes from the letters of Herbert Eustace.  This is a reproduction of Mrs. Loftus’ book.
